Computer Science, Cybersecurity Concentration, B.S.


With 4 million projected open cybersecurity positions in the coming years, Bluefield State University’s Bachelor of Computer Science with a concentration in cybersecurity was built by cybersecurity practitioners to empower students with the skills and knowledge to meet this global cybersecurity workforce crisis. This program was designed with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity subject matter expertise to align with current technologies as well leading industry cybersecurity certifications to help secure the private sector and our nation by creating a new generation of cybersecurity warriors.

Note:


At least 18 Hours of electives must be COSC courses.

Student in either MATH 101L  or ENGL 101L  are required to take BSCS 100  and will use COSC 111  as their introductory course.

Program Educational Objectives


Program educational objectives are based on the needs of the computer science program’s constituencies. Within a few years of graduation, the computer science program will enable students to attain the following:

  1. An ability to be competitively employable within the field of computer science and cybersecurity.
  2. An ability to pursue graduate level education in the field of computer science and cybersecurity.
  3. Graduates function on professional teams and communicate effectively with speaking and writing.
  4. Graduates respect professional and ethical issues as well as a commitment to quality and dependability.
  5. Graduates remain current, professionally.
  6. Graduates protect society, the common good, necessary public trust and confidence, and the infrastructure.
  7. Graduates advance and protect the profession.

 

Student Outcomes

2. Students possess an ability to analyze a problem and identify and define the computer and cybersecurity requirements appropriate to its resolution.
