This course provides an exploration of the essential components of reading instruction, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Emphasizing the needs of diverse learners in special education settings, the course prepares future educators to assess students’ reading abilities, analyze assessment data, and implement targeted strategies for reteaching, remediation, and enrichment. Candidates seeking elementary endorsements will develop expertise in essential reading components, while those pursuing 5-adult endorsements will focus on fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Additionally, the course equips educators with the knowledge and skills to identify and address reading difficulties across all grade levels, ensuring effective, evidence-based literacy instruction tailored to individual student needs.
