Pre-Professional Program Checklist
For a student to enter a professional program he/she must
Complete ENGL 101, MATH (MATH101/109 or GNET 115), and Technical Literacy (COSC 102, BUSN 130 or MEET 111/112).
Complete at least 12 hours with a “C” or better in all courses at Bluefield State University and/or from transferring Institutions.
GPA of 2.5 or above
Have a letter of recommendation from a high school/university counselor, a faculty member, or employer.
Complete a Statement of Purpose, to include
Why the student chose Bluefield State University to pursue their degree.
Why the student wants to enter this program, and what they plan to do with this degree.
What/who influenced the student’s decision.
Examples of how the student volunteers in their community, and what has motivated them to do so.
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Students demonstrate an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline.
2. Students demonstrate an ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline.
3. Students demonstrate an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
4. Students demonstrate an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results.
5. Students demonstrate an ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team.
6. Students demonstrate an ability to address professional and ethical responsibilities.
